It's not that they hurt more or less, it's just that it takes long and my tolerance period runs out. My first epilator is also Braun and it works perfectly after many years.I bought the 7280 because I misplaced the old one, so now I use both simultaneously and I finish faster. The 7280 is really cool because you can take off the epilating head to wash. Also, it comes with a shaving head and a light which is very helpful to locate strays. As for tips, for your first time you should wax the area first....you don't want to try epilating old hair, the roots are a lot harder and can even draw blood dots. Start off on the strays that waxing leaves behind, believe me, this little gadget picks up the tiniest hairs so it will have PLENTY to pull. It will hurt but you can take it. Be comitted!
